What was your "Shit, I'm an adult" moment?

I grew up without a dad and my mom couldn't raise three kids so my grandmother adopted and raised me. She worked and retired from Cummins Engines for 30 years and carried me on her insurance because I was her dependent. In high school I had a ton of medical problems and had to have surgery as soon as I graduated (which even that was a year later due to said medical reasons) so I started college later than most due to my health. I went to school for two and a half years and then my health started to deteriorate again, causing me to have to go through more surgery. I was about to turn 23 two weeks before my surgery date. Had a great birthday, a few days later we get a call from Cummins stating that because I turned 23 they were no longer obligated to pay for my surgery through my grandmothers insurance due to some agreement they'd made through the insurance company. It was that moment where I was like, "holy shit, I'm an adult." I had to cancel that surgery, go full time at my job to get insurance, drop out of school so I could work and get the insurance I needed to pay for it. I literally am recovering from the surgery as I type this. It's been a nightmare.

TLDR; Grandmothers insurance dropped me out of nowhere after I turned 23, dropped out of school, went full time to get insurance. Finally recovering 2 years later.
