What was your worst date?

We met in debate. I'm not really used to guys liking me. Like at all. Any positive male attention I get, I usually brush off as being a joke. He messaged me on Facebook wanting to hang out. I thought it was a normal hang out as friends - we weren't really that close but I guessed he was shy and didn't have many close friends. Then, the following happened, none of which I took to be signs of interest at the time because I'm an idiot.

He suggested dinner at a fancyish campus place. We finished eating and walked around. Each paid for our own thing, as I fully expected

We were just making cringey engineering estimation calculations of annual campus fountain power consumption and he fumbled with some numbers and got kinda nervous. Said "I'm just trying to impress you." I thought this was slightly out-of-character but harmless flirting-as-a-joke, like "lol dam girl I'm trying to impress you and get with you haha get the joke? it's cuz I so obviously would never want to get with you haha" so I LOL'd.

He kinda pulled me by the arm for like 0.5 seconds to redirect me towards the rose garden and wanted to sit down there for a while. This was weird cuz we were pretty uptight around each other - not much letting loose or silliness or physical contact.

I had to go back to the design studio to work on a project. He was set on walking me RIGHT BACK to the room I had to return to. This was kind of a no-no since my teammates were working in them, and as far as they knew, I'd just gone back to my dorm to make myself dinner. I didn't want to tell him that he couldn't be seen by them, because that almost seemed more rude then me making some excuse, so we took the back entrance into a connecting building, where I told him I had to pee, and good night, so that I could go into the washroom, he could go home, and he wouldn't walk me right to the room I had to return to.

Before that, he stopped me, and nervously asked if this was a date. I was like "WHAT" then I was like "fck me I'm an idiot." my interest level in this dude = 0

I've never rejected anyone before but feels bad man. I think I felt worse than he did about that haha.

I told him I am not allowed to date, which is true, (and the reason I had to break up with my last and only ex boyfriend, which I had not mentioned to him)

Him: "Is that what you told [ex-boyfriend's name]?"

Turns out he is roommates with my ex boyfriend's two best friends. And they knew he was planning on hanging out with my that day, and they basically told him I'm a racist who only dates within her own people. cringe

tl;dr hang out with dude. dude thinks it's a date. it's not a date. had to say as much, and was more uncomfortable for me than him. turns out dude has indirect connections to ex, and probably thinks i'm racist
