Shit, where to start? I'm a magnet for bad treatment.
First there's my brother, who once got into a wreck, and the best I can figure is that he was driving without a license, so he pretended he was me, and the citation was put under my name. Obviously, no one appeared for the court date, so there was a warrant issued for my arrest. I had no idea he'd been in a wreck, or that I had a warrant, until a few years later, just days before it was expunged from my driving record. (In my state, accidents are removed from your record after x number of years).
Fast forward several years and I'm on the outs with my mom for the shitty way she treated me, when the same brother decides to defend her honor by writing me a six page typed letter telling me what a lowlife piece of shit I am, and that I have been a burden to the family because I had birth defects, and Mom could have sent me to an institution, so I should just be grateful that I was allowed in the family at all (He really said that. I just have an orthopedic issue!). He also berated my for being an atheist, while he's a god fearing Christian (a Christian who was a deadbeat dad to four kids, had a long arrest record, and mooched shamelessly off of mom). I, otoh, had graduated college, got married, got a job and never got into a bit of trouble.
Oh, and the reason I was mad at my mom was because she treated me like shit. Every time I'd visit, I'd have to listen to all the details of the weekly outings she had with my criminal brother, and the vacations they took together -- all at her expense. He never took his wallet out of his pocket when she was around. Yet I couldn't even talk her into going to lunch with me. Her favoritism was so blatant that other family members commented on it often -- but not to her. Mom even looked me in the eye once, and told me that if she'd known I'd have birth defects, she would have aborted me. Seriously, I just have a fucking prosthetic leg. Other than that, I was an educated and productive member of society with a decent income, who never asked anybody for anything. It was ironic that her one-legged child was the only one who could stand on his own two feet. My brother never bought a car with his own money as long as mom was alive.
Skipping some of the other ways people have shit on me, I later became part of the online sailing community. I made friends with a guy from the messageboard who lived in my area. We got along great, and went sailing together all the time... at first. As he met more of the forum members in person, he apparently liked them better, but continued to hang out with me. Only now, he starts belittling me constantly. Whenever there was a serious discussion about sailing on the board, I'd participate just as I always had, but he'd respond to every one of my comments with some kind of insult. He was relentless about it, but tossed in a bunch of smiley faces to make it look like it was all in good fun. If he'd done this to other people, I'd be okay with it, 'cause some guys just do that kind of thing. But he only did it to me, and talked up all the other members of the group like they were the best people he'd ever met.
This escalated, as I became the butt of other people's jokes, as they followed my friend's lead. When I finally told him I was sick of his shit, I got an apology from different member on the board: "I never treat people that way," he said. "I got caught up in the feeding frenzy, I guess." Treating people badly is contagious. People end up joining in without even realizing it.
But the damage was done, and I was permanently at the bottom of the totem pole in the sailing community, even among people who had never met me.
A few years ago, one of the members (best friends of the first guy) became facebook friends with me. I had no idea how he felt about me until facebook came along. He's a rabid right winger, and got really ugly with me whenever I posted any of my political views. But here's where that links back to the bully above: Several other group members expressed the same views I did, and he was fine with it. He only went into a rage when I had an opinion.
Finally, he jumped into a political discussion that had nothing to do with him, and told me that if those were my views, then he was banning me from the regional sailing gathering that was coming up. And he had the authority to do it. Another member of the group defended my views, and said that I was right, yet he wasn't the least bit angry with her. If it came from me, he'd always see red. They then added language to the event's website saying that the event "has a kid, crew, boat and pet friendly open door policy for all 2 and 4 legged attendees." Yeah, they think they're clever with the amputee humor. But they wanted to be sure I got the message that I was not welcome there.
The rest of the community barely gave a shit about it, as long as they were still allowed to attend, so fuck me, right!
Too many other stories to mention. I'm done with people. I have an awesome wife who loves me, so fuck the rest of them.
