Depends on your trading system. I look at indicators and for breakouts / ranges.

Since you can set up alerts for this, where does most of your time go?

I set alerts but I almost always never hear them. It goes like this - charts - nothing happens - charts - nothing happens - charts - nothing happens - go for a stretch in the garden, suddenly something happens - alarm goes off - I don't hear it because I'm in the garden, kitchen or bathroom, etc, etc. Get back to computer - alert is over - trade opportunity is already gone.

is trading not as time intensive when youre not scalping? Or are you checking news and stuff?

Again the time depends on how you trade. As I said alerts don't usually work out for me. My regular day is something like this:

Morning: wake up - bathroom - prayer - charts - coffee - charts - reading - charts - news charts - break / snack- charts - video / game - charts.

Midday: Charts - lunch - charts - rest - charts - video - game - charts.

Evening: prayer - charts - occasional phone call - charts - try to sleep.

That's it really.
