Yeah, Naoto and his mother are pretty much identical in the anime.

However, I don't take it seriously because the anime is an adaptation of the manga. I always take source material more seriously than adaptations. In fact, there's stuff in the manga and other art by Nanashi that contradict the anime. For example, the hair colors of the Sunomiya cousins (Sana [aka President] and Hana) are dark violet in the anime but completely black in recent color illustrations of them done by Nanashi. And so I think that it's better to wait until Nanashi (the author and illustrator of the manga) does another detailed illustration of Naoto's mother in the future, instead of relying on the anime.
