Which Bike? - Weekly Scheduled Discussion -- August 12, 2019

I'm looking to buy a bike for commuting and recreational riding. I've done a bit of riding/commuting in previous years on a standard road bike, but have been out of the saddle for a bit now due to various life/work circumstances, and this entire genre of bikes is new to me. Very excited by them, though, especially as it opens up some new paths (old rail trails, etc.) that I wasn't comfortable taking my road bike on, and I like having the ability to run wider / knobbier tires for commuting in worse weather.

I've done a bunch of research looking at models/etc., and really like the look of the Kona Rove/Sutra. I found a local ad for a used 2018 Rove NRB that appears to be in very good shape, with one possible flaw of a "cosmetic" dent on the downtube (will have to inspect more in person). If it's not too basic/boring a question, what is a good price for this bike on the used market? I'd probably prefer a steel frame, but if I can get this second-hand for a good price, I figure it would work well as an entry into more mixed-terrain cycling, and help me figure out what I like / don't like for a later new bike purchase.
