ESPN landing MLB rights to playoff round that doesn’t yet exist

I'm working on making a post in r/nfl about this, but I think the 14-team playoff fixes a lot of the nagging issues I have with the NFL's seeding and qualification inequity since the 8-division realignment...there was a lot of nuance in the seeding incentives with 12 teams and 6 divisions, but not anymore...with that extra WC team, some different nuance comes back into play because you really do not want to play against the #1 seed off their bye. Obviously this hasn't been put into practice yet, but we'll start to see how it works this year.

I'm not sure that it would work really well for baseball for the baseball reasons, and I kind of think it will have the opposite impact because there's six divisions in the MLB right now: for some reason having exactly three wild card teams ends up making these formats work better.

That said, if they want to incorporate some double-elimination in there for the best-of-3's...there's definitely a way to do it.
