The white paint looked flawless on this Model 3.

Simple answer: it adds another party (the dealership) that needs to make a profit on the sale, raising the price of the product to the customer.

But, unlike gas car dealerships that provide maintenance services for an additional revenue stream, the EV car dealership will either accept a heavily reduced maintenance revenue stream or will have to raise the sale price accordingly. One EV dealership raises its prices, others will follow.

EVs are not competing with each other; they’re competing with ICEs. Making them more expensive in order to support the dealership model gives up a primary sales advantage to ICE manufacturers. In summary: dealerships provide little value to the EV model at tremendous threat of sales and increased costs to the potential customer.
