Worst part is he'll still be fed actual food in jail

You keep saying "you" when talking about your actions and it's incredibly misleading.

Is English your third or fourth language or something? Somewhat rhetorical, if you don't have a good grasp of language, you probably shouldn't be arguing the semantics of what is or isn't poison.

At any rate, I think I get what you are saying thanks to your last sentence.

doesn't mean you support what they did, just that their punishment is unjust

By calling it less than poisoning(and it is "poisoning" by definition, as I've proven in this and many other comments in this thread), you are demonstrating a different perspective on their deeds, what they did. This is categorically defending their actions by making it out to be something less than what it factually was. You are downplaying what they did to make it sound less bad.

He willing put stuff in food that which isn't meant to be ingested and the guy got sick because of it. This is the definition of poisoning as a verb.

If the guy had died, he'd probably be up on murder charges and would be looking at far more than 2 years. Semantics over whether you believe toothpaste is "poison" or not......Your desires to make it something else are irrelevant to the reality of what happened, your concepts and perceptions are only yours, they do not change reality.
