Wow, that hit hard.

And this is why people saying that Ron and Hermione shouldn't be together are absolutely missing everything.

I couldn't disagree more. For one, Harry/Hermione 'shippers have been treated rather poorly, for a very long time, by the rest of the fandom. Emerson Spartz, who was once the founder of MuggleNet, even made fun of them in an interview with J.K. Rowling, calling them "delusional".

I am not a Harry/Hermione 'shipper myself, but they did not deserve that kind of treatment. Not only was it dehumanizing, comparing their personal preferences to being mentally ill, but deeply hurtful. The way that Spartz, and, at the time, Rowling as well, saw and spoke about these 'shippers was tasteless, offensive, and unwarranted.

Instead of handling it like mature adults [though Spartz was a teenager at the time], the two had a laugh at the expense of Harry/Hermione 'shippers. Most of these people simply saw the books differently than the majority of fans did, and wanted to enjoy their passion(s) with other, like-minded people.

Below is a direct quote from J.K. Rowling, albeit more recently, where she seems more open to Harry/Hermione in hindsight.

"[Kloves] felt a certain pull between them at that point. And I think he's right. There are moments when [Harry and Hermione] touch, which are charged moments. One when she touches his hair as he sits on the hilltop reading about Dumbledore and Grindelwald, and [two] the moment when they walk out of the graveyard with their arms around each other. Now the fact is that Hermione shares moments with Harry that Ron will never be able to participate in. He walked out. She [Hermione] shared something very intense with Harry. So I think it could have gone that way." - J. K. Rowling
