JL's Opening Weekend Looking Weak

This is not super shocking though. BvS had some significant lasting damage for the brand, even with the success of WW. One movie doesn't negate 3 others that people hated, so when JL likewise got terrible reviews it was DOA. Not to mention trailers that never built up much enthusiasm from a pretty weak marketing campaign.

I enjoyed the movie, but it isn't a quality film. These types of big-event of comic book movies rarely are, but there's a lot of warranted criticism flying around. I see this playing out as the DC universes X-Men Apocalypse: It'll barely make enough money to not be a complete flop, but they won't be anchoring their entire universe on these team movies after this. That's honestly a relief, honestly. Just make interesting quality solo films a la WW with Aquaman, Shazam, Flash, etc and move on. Maybe try again in a few years when it's a stronger brand again.

But who knows. It may magically have enough legs (doubt it but who knows) and make enough overseas to hit the 700-800 range. Hard to say, but performing like the last Pirates sequel seems realistic. It wasn't ever gonna hit Avengers numbers with all their lead in support, so I'm sure WB has (or at least, one would hope) braced for this possibility.

Shame THIS is the one in the franchise to flop, though. It's embarrassing for one, but also of the bunch (excluding WW) this is by far the most likable (despite it's flaws) film that they've put out. Much rather see this continue than the nightmare that was Suicide Squad, but such is life I suppose.
