Yamaha dtx: why doesnt the cord on the left work as a replacement?

So TRS is gonna be stereo right?

Just to confuse you a bit a TRS connection CAN be stereo (unbalanced) or a mono (balanced). It has 3 wires (you can see 3 separate areas of metal on the jack. The "tip" the "ring" and the "sleeve".).

An XLR (mic cable) has 3 wires as well (3 pins) which is a BALANCED mono signal (1 wire is hot, 1 cold, 1 ground).

A headphone cable (TRS 1/4" or 1/8") has 3 wires/TRS but used as an UNBALANCED stereo feed. (1 wire is the ground, 1 wire is the left signal, 1 wire is the right signal).

So a 1/4" TRS cable can be used in both situations depending on the need.

They aren't interchangeable though. If you were connecting an unbalanced piece of gear to a balanced piece of gear you'd need a cable/adapter that goes from TS (tip sleeve) to a TRS in order to work properly.

Just understand and know your equipment to know what type of connection it's looking for.
