Your political priorities?

Were I pressed ganged for provincial government, I think I'd be more concerned about the condition of the political atmosphere that would have permitted my conscription.

Jokes aside, I'd probably be looking at some rather tremendous reparations for the indigenous peoples of Canada. Not just monetary things, but also the dismantling of a lot of pipelines, and nasty infrastructure that disproportionately impacts their lives. Then I'd look at improving the local infrastructure of reserves, and the granting of additional land, or possibly a rethinking of the treaty system to their benefit. Unfortunately, I'm not educated enough on the matter to know how to fix the treaty system. I'm not sure whether dissolution is really a remedy to the treaties and the problems inherent to their execution.

All these attempts for mending the harm done to indigenous peoples could be capped off with social programs meant to educate Canadians on the real history of our nation. Effort would be made to alleviate not only the macro structures of racism that enable the oppression of indigenous peoples, but also the tiny columns and mechanisms that support them through public opinion and ignorance. Hopefully a side effect of this would be a partial dismantling of correlated racist ideologies focusing on other PoC.

Next, I'd be, in the short term, turning us away from a resource economy so as to protect what is left of the wilderness in Canada. I would leverage laws governing construction and city planning not only to make the processes more environmentally friendly and sustainable, but also to promote increasing density within cities. High urban density helps to prevent the wasting of land and the destruction of untouched ecosystems. It facilitates the development of a communal mindset by making social contact with greater numbers of people essentially mandatory. Finally, it is much more efficient for the means of public transportation (maybe I could replace cars and other terrible vehicles entirely) and general industry/commerce. The overarching goal would be to enact socialist or anarchist principles through government gradually enough that the frog wouldn't realise it was becoming "pinko commie scum" (sarcastic joke here). I feel like the key to transforming society in such a direction requires inchworm pace change to prevent violent or successful backlash by fascist or severely right wing elements.
