10 Years ago pro gaming was a joke.

TL;DR: You wouldn't compare a top-tier doctor to an astronaut, so don't do it to esport athletes with traditional sport athletes.

So here's my opinion. You can take it, leave it, not believe me, whatever you want to do, but this is my personal data gathered from my own life.

I played sports for fun, and I played video games for fun. I was exceptional at both. I was also top 10% in my class in highschool, and top 15% in my major in college (my major had 400 people in it), and I played several musical instruments. If you have ever read "Outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell, you will learn that some people just have a higher capacity to succeed in things than others.

I will say that even though I was a clear cut above many tiers of people, I wasn't "professional" at anything. I was an all-state musician, but not National Honors Band caliber. I was an NCAA Division I Football player, but when I tried out for the NFL, I didn't make it (even with steroids [and yes, everyone did them and still does them]). I was on some minor level esports teams when I was younger, and when I went against today's pro gamers, I got humbled and slightly embarrassed.

After seeing first hand the skill it takes to make it anywhere in a true professional sense, I can say that I have immense respect for any top-tier professional, for the depth of knowledge and intangible skill they have for their craft.

And I genuinely feel bad for all of the kids that think they should play sports/esports for the money instead of the fun. It's a terrible pipe dream. Sure, be competitive if that is how you derive your fun, but I would advise anyone to not begin with "future pro" in mind.
