$2000 checks vs $1400 checks - not a policy debate, a political debate

I don’t get a check regardless, no adult dependents do, and no trust funders either. That is a bad-faith representation. AOC is the one starting this discussion, is she a whiny, entitled, trust fund kid?

This type of move, trying to bury the fact that the checks will not be $2000, when people will get the $1400, and passing on the opportunity for a standalone bill for these checks so that they can make a public case separate of the rest of the package is the type of foot-shooting Democrats do that allows for dishonest smear campaigns that Republicans will inevitably employ in 2022 and 2024. Additionally there isn’t really an indication the economy will be so amazing next year given the speed at which the virus is mutating right as the slow and mishandled (so far) vaccine rollout continues. We could see for example a covid strain appear that is vax resistant to some degree.

If the economy is all right by next year and the virus is fully managed, then I could see this not mattering at all. But for now I just don’t think that’s a smart calculation to make when assessing strategy.
