baseline:well if i'm well established i don't really have much need of great warriors or extra legitimacy so old foggy Barristan the Bold is out (Dany needs him but why do I?). also at the end of DWD Tommen is Lord of Casterly Rock and Storms end with Stannis dispossessed and powerless. A stannis who made peace is a stannis without religious zeal (or he's replacing jon as head of the NW either way he's unimportant and Mel looses faith). The key problem i see is the looming religious war in the riverlands, insurrection in the north, Varys and Tommen. Littlefinger has always been powerless to a full frontal assault and this will be delivered to crush him, but that requires help from the vale. The riverlands problem requires either toleration or religious persecution. toleration of the fanatical sect just isn't possible so a strong man is needed and it's a good idea to keep old god believers around me to a minimum. The last thing i need is the faith militant turning on me.

the insurrection in the north is problematic insofar ares it compromises my authority and reminds the north of their recent treasons (remember they pushed rob).

Tommen is now both lord of Casterly Rock and the Stormlands while holding a future claim to my throne. This presents a real problem. It's possible to crush them by proving Tommen is a bastard and seizing the stormlands for myself but that doesn't deal with the religious war and in fact hurts it if this encourages Stannis to claim the stormlands. So we strike a deal: the lannisters are exiled to casterly rock to regroup and blackmail tommen and cersei (with the carrot of Jaime's freedom) to legally cede up the stormlands to me.
