The alley behind the building I work in was a bloody mess this morning

This reminds me of a scene I found in the stairway and entry area of my first apartment building one morning on my way to work. I was pretty groggy and out of it on the way out of the house around 6 am and stumbled upon a vision that resembled the hallway from the Shining. I noticed two severed fingers laying at the bottom of the stairs. My husband called the police and I went on to work in a daze. I found out later that our upstairs neighbor and his buddy were followed home from the bar and held at gun point in their apartment by two punk kids (not sure how the hell they got in). Our neighbor was a guy who had just moved here from England and was a world traveler who collected stuff from all over and his buddy was massive rugby player visiting from out of town. I later found out the details that one of the guys with the gun had our neighbor laying face down on the floor and kept taunting him and smacking him in head with the gun while the other dude was looting the place. After having enough of it I guess, our neighbor grabbed the gun and started wrestling with the guy while rugby dude took the opportunity to go for one of the katanas that our neighbor had brought home from his travels and put on display. Rugby dude proceeded to go crazy, lopping off some things and injuring one of the guys pretty badly by slashing him in the torso area. The two intruders ran down the stairs, with rugby dude chasing them all the way down, covered in blood, holding this damn sword and shouting like a maniac. A couple other friends of ours who lived on our floor were getting home around this time and were drunk and ran into this sight. It scared the shit out of them, seeing this shirtless hulk of a man they didn't know covered in blood with a katana. Apparently, he yelled for them to call the police. They caught the intruders but I guess nobody had cleaned up our building yet when I stumbled on the scene. Our neighbor ended up moving back to England shortly after and seemed pretty traumatized. Our building became known as the "Samurai House" in the neighborhood.
