They need solid ground just as every other company which is competing with other - big as f* companies such as Apple. Spotify already introduced some sort of tracking feature. It might not look good or dangerous now, but it's safe to say that they might want to develop in for instance during this year end review. And if spotify does that, so will Apple. It's just rivalry.

Now compare spotify database with last fm database. My shoot is that last fm will not be on a winning position.
