Antidepressants that DO NOT cause weight gain

Whenever someone feels the need to specifically mention "antidepressants don't cause weight gain, overeating dose" I become irritated. This is nothing more than a pedantic need to correct wording, or for some reason to deflect the blame off the antidepressant and onto the person.

Yes, overeating causes weight gain. But the antidepressant causes the overeating. Someone can also experience overeating without experiencing a net increase in weight, so I think it makes sense to keep the wording as "antidepressants cause weight gain." Almost everyone is aware that you need to eat more to gain weight, I don't think anyone denies that aspect of it. The calories in/calories out explanation is something that many people don't need to hear, as it's redundant and often condescending.

But there is no doubt that many antidepressants cause weight gain even in those with no predisposition to emotional overeating. As you listed, mirtazapine is the worst culprit, probably by far. Sometimes the drug, and only the drug, is to blame.
