any coxswains here who felt like they were kinda pushed into the role?

i coxed one race largely because i was the next smallest person on the team but not so intuitively fast in pairs (we had only just started sweep - everyone else seemed to naturally incline towards to one side whereas i was switching every practice mainly to accommodate for others #bisweptualstrugglez). come race day, it was pure chaos - i legit forgot what i was doing as a cox and so throughout, just thought, “what would i do from bowseat/2?”. all my pressure steering calls (it was very, very windy and choppy over in lane 5/6, cos guess who crossed buoys eek) took me ages to figure out because i was going in and out of cox’s and rower’s mind. talk about convolution.

these two buttcheeks haven’t had the glory of bathing in another bowloader ever since and i am so, so glad. but i do sometimes wish that i had a bit more of a natural talent for making calls instead of nervously umming, “shit!”ing and suddenly swinging my toe round 90° when i should’ve made the call 3 strokes ago from that once so revered (in my mind) bowseat.
