Anyone else want to start over with me?

Nodular acne sucks. I've dealt with it on and off since I was like 13, and I'm 44 and I still get a flare up periodically (along with other forms of fun acne). Nodular acne is the worst. It doesn't have a head, and it's like an impenetrable hard bulb, and it takes way longer to go away. People say to leave it alone, but I never do. It begs to be dealt with because is usually hurts. I actually think it heals faster if I let it relieve itself even in small juicings (sorry to be gross). I will usually take a very sharp and clean pin and try to figure out where the most white bulbous area of the nodule is located. You can do this by putting pressure on the edges (sort of like squeezing but without the full squeeze). Then I insert the pin deep down into the nodule to try to reach the root. Then, using tissue, I will squeeze around the entire perimeter of the nodule. This will usually relieve a fair amount of puss and blood. Sometimes it will pop in the class fashion, but not usually. This squeezing rarely alleviates the whole nodule, but it can provide some pain relief. Importantly, I will ONLY DO THIS IN THE EVENING AND NEVER IN THE MORNING. That's because I like to follow up with COLD ICE for about 10 minutes, then some retinoid/Retin-A product and let it recover overnight. Another important aspect: Take an anti-inflammatory, like Aleve, also some Vitamin C, and drink plenty of water. You'll want to take an anti-inflammatory the entire time you have the nodule, as this is an inflammatory issue and it really does work. Over the years, I've learned not to blast the nodoule with drying products, such as benzyl peroxide, which will just cause other flaking and peeling skin issues around the mountain of nodule. I put on the retinoid product followed with a heavy moisturizer and go to sleep. Usually, the next morning, one of two things has happened: the nodule will either be flatter or have more of a head for popping. I hate popping anything in the morning because it really screws up makeup application. The best product I have found to cover these nodules is MAC Studio Tech cream foundation, which dries to a powder consistency and has amazing coverage. The next night, I reassess and go at it again. I typically get one nodule at a time - rarely more - so this might not work as well if you get a whole lot of them, but I tend to be blessed with one at a time ... lucky me. Good luck! I never have had it bad enough to try meds, but I have had it consistently for decades and I wish it would go away already.
