Anyone else watch horror for comfort?

In 1959, when I was 9 y/o my parents began allowing me to stay up at night to watch The Twilight Zone as long as I agreed to turn out all the lights when it was over. Since then I have used horror to go to sleep whenever possible. I would read stories from Alfred Hitchcock’s : Stories They Wouldn’t Let Me Do On TV before bed. As I got older I loved figuring out the special effects and deciphering what made something truly scary. I read everything I could about classic horror. I don’t watch "in your face" gorefests or cheap scares, although I did enjoy Dead Snow. I most love shows that terrify me only using my imagination. When I first saw The Thing on TV in 1962 or so, it took me 3 tries to make it all the way to the end. Most recently I’ve had to resort to going to scary movies on my own if I want to see them in the theater, most of my friends find the world scary enough day to day. This summer I particularly enjoyed watching Zomboat before bed.
