There are many of these apparition sites, including Garabandal (Spain) in the 1960s, Medjugorje (Bosnia) 1984-present, Betania (Venezuela) in the 1980s-1990s.

In the Phillipines in 1986 there was a claimed mass-sighting of an apparition during a military crackdown on a Tianenmen Square-type uprising.

UFOlogist Jacques Vallee wrote an entire book about the phenomena of UFOs/religious apparitions being used (or created) by fascist intelligence agencies for fascist political goals.
