Anyone know they weren't getting the job mid interview and did something unorthodox?

A long time ago, I was fresh out of college and I had an interview with a company that had me interview with 3 different employees of theirs, one on one. Everything went great. It was an entry level job for a large company, the people were nice, and the job sounded pretty much right up my alley. The final step of the interview process was a handwritten test. The test was completely insane - like, I have 15 years of experience in my field now and I still don’t think I would pass it. I think they were looking for some super genius. I looked at question #1, then #2… I just walked back to them, handed back the test, and said “Yeah, I don’t think this job is for me.” A placement agency had gotten me the interview and I got a call back asking what happened. I told the truth - there was no way I was passing the test. The agent said “Yeah, they said they were having difficulty finding someone for the position.” I guess I wasn’t the only one failing their test.
