You Are Still Crying Wolf

Oh, jeez. Well, 300 is still a minuscule amount, though this is obviously non-good.

I think the general story of this election is nobody actually paid close, serious attention to Trump's policies and qualifications. Whether or not Trump is a racist troll, and whether or not his supporters are racist trolls, I think he's not going to be a great head of state and I worry that he won't be a stable or thoughtful chief exec. People attacking Trump in this way are almost as bad as people attacking Trump for his physical appearance. I really do not care at all whether or not a candidate looks funny. I care a lot about their policies, qualifications, and ability to lead.

Certain policy stuff the president does are things that can't be undone. International geopolitical stability, damage to the climate, restrictions of civil liberties; a lot of these things are really state- and path-dependent and it's really important not to screw these things up. Negative race-specific outcomes are far more likely to come from Trump quickly and unconcernedly signing some strange bill that Congress sends him than from his supporters, or from him personally being someone who is racist in his private life. There's so much about Trump to criticize, and a lot of it is completely substantive and completely provable in a way that culture wars stuff is not.
