Are Yuppies killing the Live Music Capital of The World?

I think you are confusing the issue. Sure clubs open and close all the time but we are talking about losing a district, a hub of clubs that make things like SXSW possible. If the Red River district (not specific clubs) goes away you lose one of the major components that made Austin a live music mecca, a walkable music district rather than clubs strewn scattershot across a city. Once hotels and other businesses go in the district will not be able to be reclaimed. Venues will be scattered not concentrated. Concentration of clubs is what made Austin unique, it allowed people to attend multiple shows in one evening thus opening up the possibility of discovering more music. Clubs also thrived more. I can't tell you how many shows I went to I think you are confusing the issue. I can't tell you how many shows I went to that I would never have gone to simply because of proximity. I spent more money and saw more music. Now I am less likely to go out because I know my options are more limited.
