Atheists, did you never believe in god or what made you switch sides?

I thought the last test would be something along the lines of a fundamentalist mom and son at the pearly gates and mom is begging not to let her son burn in hell for eternity, but oh well, she has to go in without him to the other folks who then joyfully celebrate God while their neighbors burn in agony for eternity. Once the gates close, the angel says he’ll give the son a tour, there’s a party over here, bird enthusiasts, car enthusiasts so on here and there. Son says “Hold on, aren’t I burning forever?” Angel says “Oh no, that was just to give your mom one last chance to enjoy heaven now with the rest of us. She’s taking the hard path, she thinks she’s with the elect, the few new angels who worship the true god and are saved from him terrorizing them for eternity. You got to put those types elsewhere or they get super unhappy.” “Oh no, I love my mom, can’t I do something?” “Don’t worry, after a long time they start doubting. We have all eternity for them to work through their willingness to accept eternal torture. You just have to let people live with their bad choices until they come to kindness on their own. It’ll work out in time. Meanwhile, enjoy the ice cream buffet!”

Either that or it’s hell to live with your enlightenment of how evil a righteous person is that believes and promotes eternal torture.
