Ban on pork in Islington’s primary schools

Now you're switching from talking about what is to talking about what ought to be

We can do that you know - there's no law about discussing more than one thing.

We have established what the problems are - that due to religious reasons, and lack of budget to accomodate them, pork has been removed from the menu.

I was merely making a statement that cultural issues should not be a problem. Now, perhaps you are getting worked up about me saying 'my point' - and I can see why that might offend you because you seem to take offence incredibly easy - I may or may not make MORE than one point. You see, we are having a dialogue.

These cultural issues clearly are a problem whether you like it or not

They may or may not be a problem depending on the context. In the context of the school not having enough money, well, we disagree on where the specific weight of divide on the problem lies.

What you should probably do, if you want to remain sane, is recognise that people can quite happily, within a civilised society, have a difference of opinion.

You believe that these children should either risk breaking cultural rules or not to use the lunch facilities at all.

From my point of view, one I would like to think of as pragmatic, their cultural outlook is not going anywhere and it is unrealistic to expect them to just 'hope' there is no pork, when there is a risk there will be. I also do not believe it is fair for children to go without lunch if the school provides them.

The school in the meantime has come up with a solution - to not have pork. There is other meat of course and besides a preference for pork being unsatisfied it does children no harm.

Now, my preferred outcome would be for the budget to be high enough to not only support these cultural requirements but to also have healthier, not crap food.

they've caused pork to be taken off the school menu even though pig has been eaten on these islands for thousands of years.

Children are of course still free to bring in pork and eat it if they want. Pork is not banned in the lunch room, it's simply not on the menu - just like plenty of actually healthy food.
