Beauty counter/store workers, any tips for us girls who want a start in the industry? Resume tips, etc.

Shop there a lot before you apply. Seriously, it shows dedication, it's how I got a job at MAC.

I would go to our MAC store like once or twice a week, even if I wasn't buying anything. Not even trying to apply, I just really like makeup. The assistant manager there kept telling me to bring them my resume but I declined several times because I was a newly 18 year old who had never had a job before. Eventually the manager told me to just come in for an interview the next day, so if did and I got the job! I think the most important thing was actually talking to and getting to know the girls there, instead of just being a customer. I've never even had a job before so had absolutely no retail experience, but was still able to get hired, so is is possible!

Other than that though, come to all of your interviews wearing black. Even when you're just going to hand the manager your resume/portfolio. You don't need to never let them see you without makeup if you're just shopping or whatnot, but definately be on the top of your game for the interviews.

If you get to the makeup application part of the interview, do NOT bring a friend. I made that mistake and it is so so so so 10000x more difficult to do well in the interview if you bring somebody you know, trust me. Try to bring a friend of a friend who you've never met before. This applies to all future certifications too.

Also, like another user said, be nice to everyone there. If any of us talked the potential candidate, our manager will sometimes ask our opinions and I will absolutely tell her if you were being snobby because I'm not about to put up with someone like that at work, haha.
