The Big Combrei metagame was a lot more fun

I'm fairly new to card games, so sorry in advance if I talk out of my... depth ;)

I think due to the nature of ranked play, burn and aggro strategies should be less powerful than they are in physical card games like MtG or even in other play formats of computer CCGs.

Since you earn more rewards the faster you win, choosing decks that can complete games quickly is the most optimal way to play. It's natural people will gravitate towards those decks even if they are having less fun with them.

I know there are some people who genuinely enjoy playing fast decks - and more power to them, variety is important. But it seems that, not only in Eternal but in computer CCGs in general, the trend seems to be "the faster the better". Once again - I think this stems from the way ranked play is structured.

(I know Eternal's devs experimented with some other forms of ranked play, like best-of-3, but that was before my time, so all I know is that people hated it.)

As long as best-of-1 is how you play ranked, burn and aggro strategies will be the most efficient - if best-of-1 really is the best way to play online, then maybe weakening fast strategies is the way to go.
