Birds of a feather have fun together

Beginners often train full body. I personally do it if I haven’t been training for a while to get back in shape and not injure myself before I start lifting heavier weights. As you get stronger you can’t effectively do a full body training schedule because you simply don’t have the energy to do it.

When you go to the gym and train for hypertrophy you want to put as much strain on the muscles as your body can possibly take to maximize muscle growth. this study show that the amount of training you need for maximum muscle growth per muscle is 2-3 times per week. That means that the top body builders could achieve optimal muscle growth results with just 2-3 days of training per week, but literally no serious bodybuilder does that, the reason being the body simple doesn’t have the energy storage to train the volumes needed at this level. Take Ronnie Coleman for example. His time training In the gym per session is around 2 hours he does this 6 days per week. If he would train only 2-3 time per week he would have to train for 4-6 hours per session. No human has the enegy to do intensive high weight training for 4 or 6 hours even if they are on performance enhancers. This is why it is normal to do 2- or 3-body-split training programs so you won’t have to be at the gym for ridiculous amounts of time gaining worse results in the process.

If you are going to the gym just to be healthy or you are just starting out a full body program is perfectly fine. If you are going to the gym to get maximal muscle growth and you are past the beginner faze doing a form of body split is the only way.
