Do you think black culture, is inherently harmful to the black community and society in general?

Roughly how this went:

Me: You are confusing black culture with gang culture/thug culture/prison culture. Sagging pants, gang signs, smoking weed, and wearing gang colors isn’t “black culture”. Obviously it’s gang culture/thug or prison culture.

Hip-hop, the way we talk, and foods is in our culture. In no way are those harmful. -17 karma

Person 1: well you dress like thugs, sound like thugs, and act like thugs. Stop lying to us and stop lying to yourself. It’s thuggish + 100 karma

Me: The way we speak isn’t thuggish. That’s like saying southern accents (which Ebonics takes inspiration from) thuggish. Hip-hop music isn’t thuggish, that’s like me saying metal is devil music.

A lot of gang members who participate in gang culture are black, and being black, meaning they also participate in black culture. People somehow mixed them up and intertwined both things, and now it’s seen as “black culture,” when it’s really just black gang members participating in both. - 129 karma

Person 2: OP is right, black culture holds your community back

Me: no it doesn’t. What holds us “back” is economic dependence on welfare. But no, it’s because we are just thugs right?
