The man is the clear definition of an "Authoritarian leaning Conservative"... In popular speak, he is trying to be as much as a small dictator as the law allows him to be.

Authoritarian leaders are characterized by these:

• Adheres to an ideology that disregards reality, opposition and the desires of the people.

• Decides himself what the issues, processes and goals should be, without any regards for reality.

• Thinks he is the only one to be right, treats the opposition as enemies, demonizing of the opposition.

• Because his goals are short term, will create "wars" or "urgencies" to justify his leadership style (the war on freedom, the war on Christmas, the war on traditional marriage...)

• Will keep on following the same course of action despite evidence he is on the wrong path.

• Will make bad decisions on the long term in favor of immediately reaching short-term goals with emphasis on "just getting the job done" no matter the means and the collateral damage.

• Questions or rejects any evidence that go against his ideology, beliefs or goals.

Short term authoritarian and be beneficial is a limited number of cases, long term authoritarian government is always catastrophic.

Authoritarian style can be beneficial when a task is urgent and needs to be completed quickly : wars, natural catastrophe, emergency situations, imminent danger...

The rest of the time (most of the time really), the best form of leadership is by consensus where the opinions of the people, societal norms and objective facts guide the decision making process.
