Brett Kavanaugh and the concept of a 'curse'

It's amazing how rare, globally, is sanity and the concept of the rule of law and standards of evidence. It's almost as if all these superstitious witch hunts are the norm for humanity and that it's taken a real feat of moral effort to overcome them. At least at the highest levels of power, anyway (at the low levels of ordinary people in their day-to-day lives common sense does seem to reign supreme for the most part).

I sometimes wonder whether the Trump phenomenon (full disclosure: I am a Trump supporter in case you don't feel like checking my post history) is a last gasp of sanity and support for republican institutions in a society destined for a new Dark Age, or if it's truly the turnaround it seems to promise. I hope it's the latter.
