The Z97 board you had before was overkill and pricey. A locked i5 and single GPU don't need Z97.
Cheaper memory, it's technically a little slower but you will never notice the difference.
A much more powerful GPU. The R9-290 crushes the 960. It's an EOL card so take the deals before they sell out!
PSU is a bit better quality overall, It's also on sale.
I think I improved your performance/cost ratio substantially, mainly because of the huge GPU improvement.
