Can a friend borrow a gun MD to VA?

Maybe. Remember though that first OPs friend would have to be caught with the gun. Then the police would have to somehow magically know it was transferred out of state. It's not like OPs friend is a prohibited person. It shouldn't even be an issue for him to have it. They would have to literally be caught mid transfer to be facing any penalty.

Secondly, these are CCW holders, likely with spotless criminal records. The people you hear going to prison over things like this are the ones committing crimes with "illegally transfered" firearms. I've seen people with no records charged with multiple felonies, facing YEARS in prison, be let off with probation/suspended sentences.

Could the worse happen if OP is caught? Sure. Will he be caught? Highly unlikely. Will he see any jail time? Again, highly unlikely.
