CASAA: National Call to Action: Tell the White House to urge FDA to re-work the deeming regulations so that life-saving vapor products can remain on the market!

I'm about to send this ahead of the form letter. Please let me know if I've made any grave errors here as I willfully admit I've had a couple beers already. Are the notes at the end too much? I feel like they might be too personal.

As a respectful, voting, tax paying citizen, I urge members of Congress to think carefully when considering any legislation that has the potential to infringe upon citizens' freedoms. Such decisions should be made when, and only when, to not legislate would cause incontrovertible harm to the public. History has taught us that reactionary kowtowing to fear mongers will cause more harm than good. Prohibition led to the rise of organized crime in America and The War on Drugs has become a money sink leading to us having the largest per capita prison population in the world and is very likely a contributing factor to the extreme violence south of our border.

I am not necessarily against regulations in general. In fact I believe they can be very beneficial in protecting the American people from unscrupulous persons and businesses. But again, such regulations must be very carefully considered. When a regulation has the potential to destroy an entire industry, a large part of which is based here in our country creating jobs, an industry that has the potential to save thousands, perhaps millions of lives, you have the obligation to protect that industry from unnecessary, premature regulations.

I firmly believe nicotine vapor products, colloquially referred to as "e-cigarettes" may have saved my life and potentially the life of many others. I understand there are currently many conflicting studies regarding nicotine vapor products and these products have not been around for enough time for proper long term studies. What we do know, and almost all studies agree upon, is that these products are almost certainly less harmful than tobacco, a widely available and, for the most part, fairly regulated product.

To effectively switch from tobacco to nicotine vapor is still not an easy task. Tobacco is widely available and a long time habit for most users. For myself and many other nicotine vapor consumers, variety is what has held us away from tobacco. The wide variety of products and flavors, always something to keep it interesting and that something is what keeps me from going to my local corner store and buying a very convenient pack of cigarettes.

Mr. President,

As a (former?) smoker, you of all people should understand how difficult it is to quit smoking and be applauding these devices that have made quitting so much easier for so many.

Senator Cruz,

You ran on a platform decrying big government and regulation. Well here we are. Will you actually fight for the rights of American citizens and local businesses to be free from burdening regulation? We eagerly wait your response
