It was a surreal experience at times. Way back in grade 11, one of my teachers found a whole bunch of old pins in a cabinet that apparently hadn't been thoroughly cleaned out in decades. About half (which he gave out to students) were just the "R" of the school logo and the name of the school. The other half? Confederate flag pins with the school's name in the margins. Someone at some point, in the middle of Ontario, looked at a confederate flag and said "Yeah, that seems like a fun way to show school spirit"—if nothing else, it served to put the school's pep rallies when I attended into perspective—boring as hell, but at least they dropped the klan worship?
