CMV: The words "misogynist" and "sexist are overused to the point that real sexism is taken less seriously

I agree with most of what you say so I can't really argue against you like you want. However I do think there is a huge misconception that people who are publicly acknowledged as having been victims of prejudice are the only ones who fall victim to such prejudices.

I think this leads people into believing that "well, you're not me so you wouldn't understand what it's like". Which is true, but it's often times accompanied by the assumption that other people don't also experience prejudice, or that somehow their prejudice is lesser than x persons because y person isn't that gender/race/classification.

The fact is there's a lot of prejudice going both ways. The very fact that we throw around the word mysogonyst so much every time someone hears something they don't like, even if what was said, although may have been rude, was not prejudiced. For example, while calling someone ugly or whatever may be offensive, is not often prejudiced.

The fact is it's so easy to throw around a trigger word every time someone gets butthurt that it really has, like you said, started to lose its meaning.

Not only that, but the ironic part of it all is that, when these words are being thrown around without merit, are often toward the race/gender/classification that isn't associated with the prejudiced word they're using, which is, in fact, prejudice in itself, since, for example, you never hear a girl calling another girl a mysogonyst for calling a girl ugly. Yet it happens to guys all the time (not the ugly part, just in general when a guy says something unflattering about a girls character traits)

I think a lot of the time the people who are claiming that one person is blind to their prejudice, is in fact blind themselves when they act the same way towards others. It's not easy to see past your own opinions, especially if they're strongly held, but I do hope one day we'll be able to sit down and discuss these issues without throwing out trigger words and losing our cool.

I definitely won't deny that there are some shitty people out there doing shitty things. That doesn't make us blind to the struggles of the people who deal with it. It also doesn't make us the monsters we're often made out to be, simply for not having gone through what they have.

I overthink things a lot, so my opinions are almost never concrete, as I'm always questioning myself. This is just what I think probably happens. I obviously don't know these people, and you could argue that because I am not a minority that I have no idea what I'm talking about.

However I have tried to have a legitimate discussion about this with people on the opposing side, but I never get actual arguments, simply trigger words and jumps in logic. I mean I consider myself a pretty logical person, by no means am I perfect, but I think when you're not thinking straight your brain starts to skip the logic parts of a discussion and skip straight to what you want to hear.

Anyway, now I'm rambling, but the point I was trying to make is nobody is perfect. Maybe everybody should sit back and cool their heads every once in a while and think "was I in the right there?". It's tough to do I know, but it'll help us all grow as people.
