Coin Shortage

It's the same where I live, some business have no cash due to coin shortage signs, others have signs that read due to coin shortage we prefer you pay with card or exact change signs while other businesses have no such signs and conduct business as usual with no signs of a coin shortage.

I dont believe theres a coin shortage either, it makes no sense...

Hell they even shut down all the coin stars they sometimes have at the grocery, and the banks still aren't open in the lobby where you might be able to take in all your spare change to exchange for cash, so if anything people should have MORE change rather than less.

Though the bank lobby still being completely closed would make going to the bank to get rolls of coins to use to give change in your business more difficult. They do allow people to come in by appointment however, so maybe they just aren't supplying coins... are they still minting coins? Even if they aren't minting coins billions upon billions of coins had been previously minted. So where did all those coins go? Just disappeared off the face of the earth?

Like I previously said for the longest time they had damn crime scene tape wrapped around the coin stars so people couldn't even cash in the change... even so just because you exchange your change for dollars doesnt mean that change disappears into the black abyss for all eternity...

My theory is that they are preparing to do away with coins completely and the bank will not give out coins and people who have coins are just hoarding them.

Because pretty much all USA coins are worth more money for scrap then they are face value technically. But it is a federal crime in the USA to deface any currency still in circulation. But if they discontinue all current usa circulated coins & cash... well then it's free game to go and scrap it.

If you have a lot of coins it could really add up.
