[Community] Please help out with TorrentialDownpour. Vote for whether to keep Japanese honorifics in Fire Emblem translation or not.

It's not a matter of being hard to translate, it just has no equivalent.

Like, maybe you're okay with losing some of the dialogue in the translation. I'm not. I also don't want to come up with bullshit like "mr." or adding nicknames or whatever to show closeness.

The Japanese honorifics (as well as whether characters refer to each other by first name or last name) reveal how the characters feel about one another.

You might think it looks stupid, and you want it to be taken out. Okay.

But it's just removing content. It's literally removing part of the story. It's removing parts of the characters' personalities and relationships.

The real question comes down to whether you're looking for a true localization, i.e. you want to shut your eyes and pretend that the game is taking place in Los Angeles and Phoenix Wright is eating hamburgers, or if you actually want to know what the characters said. Because the characters are speaking Japanese. They're not speaking English. If you want to translate it correctly, you need to be aware of how Japanese works.
