Complete outsider to witchcraft, looking for some information.

I'll try to answer these questions to the best of my ability as well! When it comes to witchcraft it can help to get various opinions on the matter, so I hope it helps and I am very open to criticism as well. Just let me know if I'm off on something!

I've heard a lot about earth and fire witches, and apparently there are other types of witches. Could anyone elaborate on how many types of Witch there are? Honestly there are so many different types of witches out there, it's hard to name them all. Every witch is unique and no coven is like any others. There are certain paths that many choose to follow such as wicca, druidism, heathenry, etc. And there are also some that are less defined. Ecclectic witchcraft, solitary witchcraft, kitchen witchcraft, and paganism. How does one determine which witch they are? It varies. For some it's a simple matter of choice. "Hey, I like this deity so I will dedicate myself to them." For others like myself, it took several years before I found a path -- or more accurately, the path found me. I've heard about demons being used for black magic. What are demons, and how are they involved with Black Magic? How is Black Magic related to White Magic? Demons are usually considered malevolent beings but I do know of some people that work with them on a regular basis, but the definition of a demon can vary depending on your own personal beliefs. As for the black magic vs white magic thing, I might rant a bit because I have a lot of opinions on the matter, but I also think it's important for you to know. Hypothetically if your brother or someone you knew started practicing black magic, it's not necessarily something to be alarmed about. The thing with witchcraft and magic is that not everything is nearly so black and white as you would think. So it's hard to define what is "good" and what is "bad" even though most consider white magic "good" and black magic "bad". The best example I can think of would be a love spell. A black magic love spell could be "I want my crush to love me." Meanwhile, a white magic love spell would be "I want to draw love into my life." One of these is a lot more forward and direct than the other. Typically, black magic tends to be more forceful or aggressive in nature and it can be very powerful. That doesn't mean it's necessarily bad though. For example, I once cast a banishing spell on a man who was harassing me at work. About two weeks later, he comes into my job and tells me that he's moving out of town at the end of the month because he was finally able to afford his first house. I haven't seen him since. Apparently, Witches are all about nature. This was new to me when I found out. Until this point I assumed it was all about 'toe of frog' and the like. What are some common misconceptions about witches that are completely ridiculous There are a lot of misconceptions about witchcraft, both from those outside of the practice and from within. For example, there are a lot of people who will claim that Wicca has been around for hundreds of years even though it was created in the 1950s. Also there are huge differences between Paganism, Wicca, and Witchcraft. Also, a lot of people believe you can't practice witchcraft and be Christian at the same time -- that is also false. Are their any Gods or Deities involved with Witchcraft? With witchcraft itself, not really. Although some may work with them while others may choose not to worship any which is just as well. Most deities that people tend to work with are those of Greek/Roman, Egyptian, Celtic, or Nordic and Germanic myth or pantheons. Are their any Cryptids, or mythical creatures, involved with Witchcraft? It honestly depends on your belief system. Faeries are the most common though. Although typically seen more with East Asian religions such as Shintoism in Japan, there are those that call upon dragons (for prosperity or blessing of the house). Djinn and familiars are also fairly common. But like I said, some people don't work with any of these or do not believe in them - it all depends on the practitioner. How does Witch magic work? I've heard about positivity spells and the like, but I'm not entirely sure about anything. Most of it is intent, at least for me it is. "I believe this will happen and so it shall." For some, it's about energy "I am sending my energy out into the universe in hopes that the universe will gift me something in return." And for some, it's about faith. "I am invoking this deity to guide me through this ritual and provide this offering in thanks." Are their any spells that allow you to shoot lightning from your fingertips? If so, I'm in. Ha, I wish. Explain any Witchy superstitions of tradtions It's hard to think about it off of the top of my head, so I'll have to get back to you on that. I suppose things like the horseshoe above your door, leaving milk out as an offering to faeries, and taking a bath before and after a ritual to cleanse yourself would be a few. Explain any symbols or objects that hold special significance for Witches. The biggest symbol I know of would be the pentagram and the triple goddess symbol which symbolizes (you guessed it) the three goddesses (the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone>. But it also symbolizes the three phases of the moon -- waxing, full, and waning. Also a compass can be an important symbol as well. The cardinal directions have a lot of meaning and are associated with the four elements that many practitioners invoke during their rituals.

That's all I got for ya, but I hope it helps!
