Okay, a lot going on in the comments. Here’s my take. To qualify my opinion, I’m nanish (Ojibwa) but fucking barely. My great grandad was half French half Ojibwa (on my dads side) and he married white and down my moms side is white as hell (Irish, Danish and Norwegian on my moms side). My opinion doesn’t mean anything to anyone else. I’m a 3rd generation American on my moms side and a long generation on my dads. The monument itself, to me, personally and it means nothing in the face of the local Lakota, means a lot. The nanish are dead in popular culture, fucking hell even the fleeing Irish are dead except for the “lucky charms” kinda representation. The audacity of having a brave ass stone cold yet beautiful and spiritual son of a bitch of a sculpture dwarfing that of Mount Rushmore means something to me.
We’re well past the age of conquerors and kings, we’re past the age of “democracy” and the tyranny of the age of the landed gentry.
It’s the 21st century. This is our time. Our age of bastards, orphans, and misguided children of “The ancient heroes”.
At the time of the commissioning of this “monument” it was a consolation prize.

Crazy Horse is a middle finger to the entire scam. This fantasy that justified manifest destiny. What’s greater than the spirit of Crazy Horse would be his goddamn words.
Is it a coincidence that the issues of today are more pointed and prophetic today in retrospect? Fuck that.
This monument, to me, is not a concession of colonial culture but is not even a death rattle, but a “fuck you” from the future to the past horror.
While this monument remains unfinished, scores of people visit the monuments of the colonizers.
It’s the 21’st century, let’s stop playing pretend and beat the propaganda at its own goddamn game.
