Grew up with no dad and a detached, narcissistic mother. I can’t explain the damage that did in so many different ways. I’m surprised I was able to get my shit together when two of my best childhood friends of similar backgrounds died after going off the deep end. If it weren’t for some amazing authors and podcasts I don’t think I ever would have overcome because I literally had no substantitive direction from any adult my entire life. I recently got connected with my new Little Brother through the Big Brother Big Sister program. His dad is in and out of his life and his mother has issues. It fills me with love to have the opportunity to be there for him, give him my full attention and show him a good example of being a man through my actions.
