  • I am 29 Years old, moved from Canada to Malaysia for an expat position.
  • I currently have $120,000 Ringgit (~$32,000 USD) in cash in a Malaysian Bank. And another $47,000 CAD (~ $38,000 USD) in A Canadian Bank
    • Currently Employed - I make a base of $152,00 Ringgit (~$41,000 USD), with commission target of an addition $91,000 Ringgit (~$24,500 USD). - Before Taxes (roughly 26%) Wow that looks bad in USD...
  • I'd like to do something with my saving (currently making 1% interest) Not planning to buy a house in the next 5 years (unless investment) I expect a certain percentage should be put towards retirement.
  • I'd be willing to walk into a casino and place $20k CAD on black on a roulette table and be no worse for ware... since it isn't doing anything for me at the moment...
  • I currently have no holdings - everything is cash
  • No assets, I sold everything or value when I left Canada and have not made any major purchases in Malaysia. Hard Expenses are minimal phone and internet are paid for by company (all values USD for ease): Rent $540 Hydro $67, Food $270, entertainment $135-1000 (varies if I do traveling in region) GF Lives in Tokyo can cost a lot of very little depending on travel...
  • As mentioned I do not plan to use any of this cash for major purchases within the next 5 years at minimum.
  • I'm planning to move to Japan within the next 12 months and may want to move a certain percentage of cash into Yen in order to build a cushion. I also plan to also move back to Canada in about 5 years time.

I am technically not a Canadian resident anymore and according to my bank will not be able to pay into a TFSA or my RRSP's both of which have no been utilized and are open to roughly $31,000 CAD TFSA and roughly $50,000 CAD. I know this should have been done earlier...

I know this is my first post, so go easy on me. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I feel a little overwhelmed with all of the investing possibilities that I have been casually reading about over the past years.
