So I'm writing a short story right now and it takes place in a household. My main MC is following his friend thinking he could surprise him, until he followed him to his house and found out that his father is an abuser. My MC called 911 and the scene now is at a hospital where the Friend walks out of his mother's room.

I wanted to ask what will be their typical response in a situation like this where they weren't expecting help. I am asking this because I have seen very different reactions, one is incredibly thankful, one just updates them, one is incredibly upset that they did such a thing, or one was embarrassed with it. Which is a more valid reaction?
