Daily Discussion for April 26th // {optional} Thankful Thursday

I'm absolutely furious. I overcontributed to my 401k last year because I switched jobs and am bad at math. I sent Vanguard all the paperwork mid-February to have the excess contributions removed. I've been on the phone with them and my company's HR department weekly for the last two months trying to get it ironed out. They have essentially just been sitting on the paperwork for whatever reason. I filled everything out correctly the first time.

I just got a letter dated 4/18 stating that since it is now past the tax deadline, it doesn't count as an excess deferal distribution. They are keeping the money in my plan and I will be double taxed on it. It counts as income for 2017 and it will be taxed as income when I withdraw. This is such bullshit.
