Daily Headphone Purchase Advice thread

Budget: >$200

Source: Focusrite Scarlett 2i2.

Requirements for Isolation: I'd like them to block out some noise, at least, but I'll just be using them at home, so the isolation doesn't need to be amazing.

Preferred Type of Headphone: Over-ear.

Preferred tonal balance: I used to think I wanted something neutral, but the neutral headphones I've tried were kind of... unforgiving. So I think "warm" might be what I'm looking for? Maybe you can help me figure that out.

Past headphones:

Sennheiser HD 201: I don't like these at all, but what'd I expect for $20?

Audio Technica ATHM50 and ATHM40x: I had the same problem with both of these, which is that they accentuate all the little background details to the point that they're more prominent than the actual music. I'm also just not a fan of that bump they have in the treble. The amount of bass didn't bother me, though.

Sony MDR-V6: These ones really like to point out all the flaws in everything. I half expect them to turn around and start criticizing me. Which is great if you're making music, but not so great if you're trying to enjoy it. A lot of music seems to be missing something when I hear it on these. Lower midrange? I'm not sure.

JVC HA-FX67: I know these aren't exactly top of the line, but I really like the way they sound! Especially with the memory foam tips, which seem to calm the treble down a bit. Are there any over-ear headphones with that same sort of sound?

Preferred Music: Everything. I want something that will make every kind of music sound good. Rock. Classical. Electronic. Hip hop. Death metal. Make it sound good! That's not so unreasonable, right?

Based on the reviews I've read, it seems like the Sennheiser Momentums might be what I'm looking for, but here's my question about the Momentums: Are the ear cups on the originals really that horribly small? I don't have the world's biggest ears, but based on people's descriptions, they're not going to fit you unless you're five years old. And the 2.0s are way out of my price range. So if the 1.0s are only worth getting if your ears are unusually small, what would you recommend that's similar? MDR1Rs? Aurvana Live!s? Something else entirely? (I think I should also mention here that I don't want to have to buy an amp. I've heard all these great things about all those open-back Sennheisers, and I believe you, but I'd rather have something that doesn't need an amp.)
