The Darkness | ContraPoints

I hate calling it edginess since it isn't even that edgy. Jon Stewart was making transphobic jokes at innocuous statements about gay Justices ten years ago. Ricky Gervais isn't really hurting for making an 'attack helicopter' joke a few weeks ago.

Gee, you may a derisive comment to a very small subset of the population who are already pretty widely misunderstood if not outright hated. So bold. So brave. Someone give that man his Lifetime Free Speech achievement award.

All the comedians these guys idolize - Carlin, Bruce, etc. - were edgy. They were saying things that the majority of people were supremely uncomfortable with. Bruce went to jail for obscenity. He wasn't right about everything he said but at least he could legitimately claim to be on the edge.

Gervais is just repeating the same shit I could hear from any Trump (and several Hillary) supporting Babg Boomer relatives. I guess by our new standards there is nothing edgier than sounding exactly like a middle aged floor supervisor at Sam's Club.
