Deaf people of Reddit, how often do people get pissed at you accidentally ignoring them? Any weird or exciting stories?

I'm not deaf but I have mild to moderate hearing loss in one ear. I have a hearing aid but its pretty tiny, so I don't expect people to know unless I tell them. I do expect a certain amount of decency if I ask someone to repeat themselves though (I know, I should realise the world is full of arseholes, but ...)

I work in retail, on registers. I've been told I should "clean my ears out" when I asked someone to repeat themselves once, when the shop was busy and I couldnt hear them. People with perfect hearing miss things too, so I thought that was a tad rough, straight off the batt.

Another lovely woman told me I should wear a badge saying I am hearing impaired. Sure, ok. Maybe you can wear one saying you're an idiot, Brenda.

I did enjoy ripping out my hearing aid and waving it in someone's face one day when she was gleefully criticising me for "not listening" cos I couldn't decipher her mumbles. She did look like she wanted the ground to swallow her up, and couldn't get out the door fast enough, though, so that was satisfying.
